Frequently Asked Questions
I want to get into sewing, what sewing machine should I buy?
At Common Thread Studio I have vintage Kenmore machines from the 1960s and 1970s that have been professionally cleaned and refurbished. I love sewing with vintage sewing machines because they are well made from a time period when sewing was more commonplace, and therefore accessible. Additionally, it is sustainable to use what we already have in terms of perfectly good machinery!
I find modern sewing machines with lots of digitalization overwhelming for beginners and unnecessary to produce quality results. They are also quite expensive, as you are really buying a computer.
All of our machines are for sale, so if you come try one out and love it, it could be yours! Learn more about our Sewing Machine program here.
Do you have an embroidery machine I can use?
No, sorry! Try asking at Valley Fabrics in Northampton. I am trying to find someone who does have one so I can refer people to it.
I can’t make the date of a workshop, will you run it again?
I might! It’s best to let me know if this is the case so I can gauge interest and know if I should schedule another. Send me an email me at lily@common-thread-studio letting me know you are interested.
